Graduates of the nursing programs are leaders and advocates for health in Northwestern Ontario and beyond.

Lakehead University School of Nursing accepted its first students in 1965 and since that time has continued to grow and evolve.  The School of Nursing currently offers a four year BScN program, a three year compressed BScN program, a four year BScN program in collaboration with the Seven Generations Education Institute, a Masters of Nursing program with two streams - Advanced Practice Specialization, or Nurse Practitioner Specialization, and an Indigenous Nursing Entry Program (INEP)

What is Nursing?

Nursing is a profession that blends science with caring, and technology with humanity. Nurse researchers study the science and the art of caring.  Nurse clinicians use technology to improve their nursing care. Whether in the hospital, in the school, in long term care, in industry, in the community or in the home, nurses make a difference.  You too will make a difference at Lakehead University.

What are the Essential Skills to Become a Registered Nurse?

The licensing body in Ontario for Registered Nurses is the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).  The CNO determines the entry-to-practice competencies and essential skills that graduates require to become licensed to practice/work as a Registered Nurse.  The Lakehead University Baccalaureate Nursing Programs (Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science Nursing Compressed) are approved by the College of Nurses of
Ontario (www.cno.org). Current graduates from these programs are eligible to apply for
registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario. Please see the two documents related to requisite skills from the College of Nurses Requisite Skills and Abilities and the Council of Ontario Universities Essential Requirements for Study in Baccalaureate Nursing Programs in Ontario.
